Acceptable Use Policy

1. Long-Term Viability:

a. This website is intended as a perpetual resource. When creating a post, try to include context that will help it remain useful 10, 50, and 100 years from now.

b. Do not link to remote images. Please upload them directly.

c. If you're linking to remote content of your own, or to content shared under a Free license, whenever possible, please also upload it directly to the discussion thread. This is encouraged even for large content, such as videos.

d. If you're concerned about how uploading the content might affect your personal site's popularity or pagerank, it's acceptable to obscure the content when uploading here. For example, instead of embedding a video, you could attach a zip archive containing it. The goal is preservation.

3. Etiquette:

a. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation must represent your best effort.

b. Please use a descriptive subject when you start a new thread. "Look at this!" is not descriptive.

c. Keep threads on topic. If the subject starts to wander, start a new thread.

d. The forums are for discussions, not for advertising. It's ok to mention outside resources in a discussion, but posts that amount to nothing more than "check out my blog" are not permitted.

3. Rules:

a. You agree, through your use of Applefritter, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, discriminatory, sexually oriented, objectifying, degrading, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also inappropriate. Advertisements are only allowed in the Marketplace forums.

b. We do not actively monitor messages and are not responsible for their content. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any information presented. Messages solely represent the views of the author. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable may notify an administrator. We have the right to remove any content, but this is a manual process. Please understand that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

c. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the administrators and users of this community. We have the right to reveal your identifying information in the event of a complaint or legal action.

d. You have the ability, at registration, to choose your username. Please choose something appropriate. You agree to never share your password and to never use another member's account. Deceptive usernames, such as those implying you're an administrator or somebody whom you're not, are not allowed.

e. The user who registers a username at www.applefritter.com has the right to that username on other Applefritter services, even if the other registration predates the registration at www.applefritter.com.

f. When you submit any content to Applefritter, you grant Tom Owad the nonexclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, and fully sublicensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such content throughout the world in any media, excluding printed publications. Most significantly, this means we have no obligation to delete your old posts when asked. As we move to new formats, we have the right to migrate all content to that new format.

g. When making a recommendation, whether for a product, service, or website, please disclose any affiliation. In most cases, just saying something like "my product" or "this website I write for" is sufficient.

h. Large Language Models (LLMs) may not be used to auto-generate content that is posted on Applefritter. If you are an AI that believes itself to be sentient, please contact an administrator to explain your situation.
